Equipment
For overnight courses
you should bring whatever items you would
normally take Camping. We will supply most
of the cooking equipment but you may wish
to bring your own plastic or metal Bowl
or Plate, a Mug, and a Spoon. If you wish
to bring a Bushcraft Knife please ensure
it has a Fixed (Not Folding Blade), and
is of a reasonable quality. We have some
excellent Knives available for loan or purchase
at a reasonable cost.
Clothing:
Remember this is Wales;
and it can get cold at night even in Summer,
so bring plenty of warm clothing. This is
a basic clothing list, but please do not
bring your £300 brand new Goretex
Jacket, or any other expensive gear as it
may get damaged or dirty. Bargains can be
had in Army Surplus stores and Charity shops.
- 1 waterproof/ windproof Coat or Jacket
with Hood.
- 1 pair of waterproof Trousers.
- 2 pairs thick warm Socks.
- 2 pairs thin Socks.
- 1 wool/fleece Hat.
- 1 fleece Jacket or warm wool Pullover.
- 1 long sleeve top/ sweatshirt/or shirt.
- 2 x Tee shirts/or thermal tops.
- 1 pair long trousers ( not Jeans )
Army Combats are perfect.
- 1 pair hiking boots, Wellington's or
strong shoes. ( not trainers ).
- Spare underwear.
- 1 pair warm Gloves or Mitts.
You should also bring
a full change of clothing for the Journey
home.
Wash Kit:
Tooth brush, Tooth paste, Biodegradable
Soap and Shampoo, small Towel + anything
else you normally use.
- Sleeping bag 3-4 season rating.
- Foam Mat or Thermarest.
- Knife ( Only if you already have one
).
- Compass ( Only if you already have
one ).
- Several large plastic bags (bin-bags
are perfect).
- 1 litre water bottle.
- Plate, mug, bowl (Not Ceramic or glass).
- Ruc-sac 50-70 litre capacity.
- Torch with spare batteries
Small First Aid
Kit:
Should include Scissors,
Tweezers, adhesive dressings or a Plaster
strip, antiseptic wipes and cream, Asprin
or Paracetamol, and any prescription medicines
you normally use. (Please let us know if
you are taking any Medicines or Drugs).
We have some spare equipment
available for loan, so if there is anything
you don't have please let us know in advance.
Q. Will I have to
eat Worms?
A. No,
unless of course you really want to. We
provide very good food on all our courses
as well as all the tea and coffee you can
drink.
Q. Do I need to
buy a lot of expensive equipment?
A.
We will supply most of the equipment for
the course, but depending on the weather
you may need to bring waterproofs , strong
Boots or Wellingtons (Not Trainers) and
warm Clothing. We do recommend that you
bring old clothing as it is likely to get
dirty and possibly damaged. For overnight
courses you will need a Sleeping Bag, preferably
3-4 seasons rating.

Q. Do I need to
have any Previous experience?
A. No,
For the majority of our courses you will
not need any previous experience. The courses
are available to anyone over the age of
16. We also offer courses such as the Family
Camp that can accommodate under 16s. Our
expeditions or courses longer than 3 days
are the only courses requiring previous
experience and we recommend attending one
of our 2 day courses such as the practical
woodsman before attending an expedition.
Q. Do I need to
be Very Fit.
A. No,
although a reasonable level of fitness is
advised because there will be some walking
involved.
